Competent Authority

The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment is the competent authority for the issuing of occasional trading permits in Ireland.  The Occasional Trading Act 1979 requires people who want to undertake occasional trading to get a permit.  "Occasional trading" means selling goods by retail at a premises or place (not being a public place), of which the person so selling has been in occupation for a continuous period of less than three months ending on the date of such selling.

Licensing Procedure

Applications must be made 30 days before trading begins. The permit fee is €95.23 for the first day, with an additional charge of €31.74 for each extra day (or part thereof) at the same venue. For example, the cost is €95.23 for one day, €126.97 for two days, and so forth.

A copy of the completed and signed application form can be sent by email to conspol@enterprise.gov.ie.

Payment can be made via EFT as per instructions on the application form below. Cheques made out to the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment should be sent separately by post with a cover letter indicating the applicant’s name and address.
