Gas and Heating Installer
Competent Authority
Gas and heating installers must be registered with the Register of Gas Installers of Ireland (RGII).
The Energy (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2006 makes it illegal for any person who is not a Registered Gas Installer (RGI) to undertake "Gas Work". It is also a legal requirement for all RGIs to issue a Declaration of Conformance (completion cert) for all "Gas Work" carried out. Individuals who carry out "Gas Work" and who are not registered will be subject to criminal proceedings.
*The CRU definition for the scope “Gas Work” CER/09/083 (www.cer.ie)

Trainees/apprentices must also register but applicants must show evidence of education/training achieved to date and must also be in a position to nominate a supervisor(s) who will take responsibility for supervising work and signing off completion certificates issued by the trainee.
Recognition of European Qualifications
Under the European Recognition of Professional Qualifications Directive (2005/36/EC), if you hold relevant professional qualification(s) from outside the Republic of Ireland, you must have them recognised before you can apply for scheme registration.
To have your qualifications recognised, you must complete the application form detailing your professional qualification(s) and experience. A Panel of Experts will review your application and decide if you can apply to register with the scheme.
The Directive applies to eligible persons holding qualifications from – or recognised by – a European Economic Area (EEA) Member State. Due to the timelines set out in the Directive, applicants who meet the full requirements will be prioritised. Applications from non-EEA countries may be delayed.
