Tobacco Retailer

It is a requirement for all retailers of tobacco in Ireland to register with the HSE National Tobacco Control Office. Under Section 37 of the Public Health (Tobacco) Act 2002 as amended by the Public Health (Tobacco (Amendment) Act 2004, the HSE National Tobacco Control Office, is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of a retail register of all persons who sell tobacco product in Ireland. From 1 July 2009 existing retailers of tobacco products who wish to continue selling their product must apply to register with the HSE National Tobacco Control Office. From 1 July 2009 new retailers must register with the Office before they can legally sell tobacco products. Under Section 37 (3) of the 2004 Act the Office may for the purpose of establishing and maintaining the Register charge a fee and this has been set by the Minister at ¤50.00.
