Establishing a place of business

The following is provided for information purposes only on establishing a place of business in Ireland.

The relevant local authority where the place of business is to be established is the competent authority in Ireland.

The relevant local authority should be contacted directly for all queries in relation to establishing a place of business in Ireland.

Service providers establishing a place of business in Ireland are required to comply with all relevant building and planning regulations for their premises.

When establishing a place of business in Ireland service providers may be required to submit the following forms for their place of business to the relevant local authority.

  • Complete a Planning Application form and supply with it the following: the correct fee, Site notice, newspaper notice, Site Location Map, Plans and Drawings, Approved newspaper notice for the area.
  • Complete a Commencment Notice Form and send into the Local Authority with the correct fee. Evidence must be included on the form of Grant of Planning Permission, Final Grant and Fire Safety Certificate or Disability Access Certificate where applicable. A minimum of 14 days notice and a maximum of 28 days notice is required from the date of receipt of the application in the Local Authority.
  • Complete a Fire Safety Certificate Application form and supply with it the following: the correct fee, Site Location & Layout maps, Plans and Drawings and Compliance Report.
  • Complete a DisabilityAccess Certificate application form and send it to the Building Control Authority Section of the relevant local authority with the fee. The form should be accompanied by a compliance report, a site location map and a site layout plan.
